About

The independent source on how football clubs make money off the pitch.

Why

Most of what is known about club revenue sits in the largest clubs, in consultancy decks and in people's heads. The clubs that need it most, below the top of the pyramid, rarely see it. We collect it, check it and publish it in a form a club can act on.

How we work

We read the evidence first: 287 documents on the business of football, 223 of them read in full. Each practice says what to do and how to do it, and a number appears only where research measured it. Every scan and every report is read by a person before it reaches a club.

How we are funded

The practices and the club scan are free. The Institute is funded by its advisory work with clubs, leagues and investors. To keep the research independent of that work, we hold to a few rules:

  • A scan says the same whether a club pays us or not.
  • A build is offered, never a condition of the advice. Where a standard product is better, we say so.
  • We do not review a club for an investor while we advise that club, and we disclose earlier work.
  • Nothing about a club is ranked in public without its consent.

Who

The Institute was founded by Manuele Creatini, who leads its research and its advisory work.
